Volcanic activity has created (and is ever-creating) our landscape.
There are several places where you can witness amazing geothermal activity, including right here at Bayview Wairakei Resort. Take a stroll along the banks of the natural hot water stream that runs through our grounds.
At Craters of the Moon (you can guess how it got its name!) the landscape is other-worldly. Stroll along the boardwalks to see steaming craters, boiling mud pools and hissing vents.
Orakei Korako is one of the world’s finest remote geothermal valleys, featuring spectacular silica terraces and leaping geysers.
Of course, when one talks of volcanic activity, the three towering volcanoes Mount Ngauruhoe, Mount Tongariro and Mount Ruapehu come first to mind. These majestic mountains offer a vast array of experiences – including ‘New Zealand’s best one day walk’, the legendary Tongariro Crossing.
To experience geothermal power at a far more relaxed pace, you could always soak away the afternoon in Taupo’s natural mineral hot pools or have a rejuvenating geothermal mud-mask facial – bliss!
